Santa sent a letter a couple of weeks ago telling us about Buddy the elf. He came to stay for a couple of weeks. Santa did warn us that Buddy was mischievous, little did we know just how cheeky he would be!!
He's been dancing with the wooden man, dangling from the wishing tree, pretending to be a Christmas star, squashed in a glass and yesterday he opened one of the presents under the tree!!!
Thank you for the lovely cards, presents and well wishes. Have a wonderful Christmas and we will see you all in 2014.

Christingles
This week we have been making Christingles in class.
We learnt how to make a Christingle and the meaning behind all the different parts of it.
We had to get an orange - this represents the world.
Next we put red tape all around the orange - this represents Jesus' love going all around the world.
We then placed a candle in the top of the orange - this represents Jesus as the light of the world.
Then we carefully placed 4 cocktail sticks around the orange - these are for the 4 seasons.
Finally we placed sweet dried fruits and sweets onto the cocktail sticks - these represent the good things that God gives us.
It was quite tricky to make and involved us using a range of fine motor skills but we were very pleased with our results. Have a look at our slideshow showing some of us making the Christingles and some of the finished results.

What a busy week we have had.
Phew, what a week! We've been so busy.
Buddy the magic Elf has already been up to mischief. On Monday he was swinging on a zip wire between the speakers!!!
He's been quietly reading a Christmas story and yesterday we found him in the Wishing Tree.
On Wednesday we went on a stick hunt to find small branches for our reindeer food bags. The reindeer food is for sprinkling on the ground on Christmas Eve.
We've been making baubles for our Wishing Tree. Tallulah would like a lollipop maker, Olivia SS would like a phone. There are requests for a yoyo, a Baby Anabelle and a cat.
Outside we've been making dens and singing songs from the Sound of Music.
The biggest highlight this week was the Foundation Stage production of Mary's Knitting. It was fabulous!!

Who is Buddy the magic elf?
Today FS2 received a letter from Mr S Claus. He told us about an Elf called Buddy who was on his way to see us. We searched everywhere but couldn't find him, we didn't even know what Buddy looked like.
Everyone thinks Buddy will be wearing green clothes.
Visit the blog to find out if Buddy arrives tomorrow

Congratulations to Alex and Olivia S-S for getting their names into the Gold Book
I am nominating Alex to have his name in the Gold Book because of his positive attitude and behaviour at lunchtimes recently. He is showing just how responsible he can be.
Olivia has been making a real effort over these past weeks, to display the right kind of behaviours I expect to see in class. I know she really wanted her name in the Gold Book and her excellent attitude and behaviour has paid off. Well done Olivia, I hope to see this continued into next term too.

What a lovely week we've had!
This week we've enjoyed playing with loose parts and tiny boxes.
Counting is much more fun when you have interesting things to touch.
Recognising your own name is important too, this week we've been making our name with individual letters and decorating them with glass nuggets.

Well done to Alfie and Ellie
Ellie is a superstar in class. She is such a help when it comes to tidy up time. Always looking for ways to help everyone in class. Thank you Ellie from everybody in FS2.
I have nominated Alfie for the Gold Book this week for his excellent attitude in class. When ever I change a new challenge area activity, Alfie is always one of the first to have a go.

PE this week
This term in PE we are learning about moving in different ways. We are also learning how to get changed independently into our PE kit and back into our uniform now. We are getting much better at this and only need a little help!
This week we have been 'slithering'. We thought about animals that slither and how they move and then tried to move using a slithering action. We slithered on our stomachs and on our backs. We slithered forwards, backwards and in a sideways direction! Have a look at our slideshow!

Earlier in the week the children found out what was inside a pumpkin. They were fascinated with the seeds and stringy flesh. We decided to do an experiment and find out the answer to the question; "Do pumpkin seeds float or sink?"
The children recorded their answers on the easel and during the time when we come together at the end of our morning, we found out that our seeds did both.
I was so impressed with the children's attitude and independence.

Kindness in FS2
All the classes in school have a "Say something kind" board.
They give a complement to someone who deserves recognition for their attitude.
In FS2 we have a "Do something kind" board. The children look out for kindness and write the person's name on the board.
Rhys M helped Abigail to find the end of the tape, so Abigail wrote his name on the board.
Harrision helped Elyse.
Caylem held the door open so I wrote his name.
Abigail was kind to Rhys M.
Mason was kind and someone has written his name onto our special board
I wonder how many people will do something kind next week?

Thank you to the adults for spending time talking to the children about the photograph above.
Here are some of the responses from the class; (written as it was said)
Summer - The tree has fallen down onto the car
Olivia S-S - People might be in the car and stuck
Jared - Man with an axe would chop the tree and open car with key
Caylem - Tree smashed the gate, squashed the car and flattened
Robbie - Someone needs to push the tree off the car
Rhys G - Tree bent the gate
Tallulah - Storm might have crashed the tree down
Ellie Gr -Wind blown the tree down
Riley - There's tape round the tree
Ellie Grif - If people are in this side of the car, they can get out of the other side
Lewis - Gate is snapped
Matthew - Firemen might move the tree
Marshall - Move it with a fire engine using the crane
Joseph - They'll have to get a new gate
This has been the best Big Talk session so far, well done FS2.

This week we say congratulations to Mason and Oliver.
Mason has been showing great determination lately when writing the letters in his name at the chalk table. Keep going Mason, you'll soon be able to do it.
Oliver is in the Gold Book this week for his consistent positive attitude towards school and his learning. He is always busy in the areas of the classroom. A pleasure to teach!

Investigating the inside of a pumpkin
We had great fun today finding out what is inside a pumpkin.
The children noticed the pumpkin contained seeds and stringy flesh. According to Abigail; "The seeds are slippy, just like banana skin"
The children used different tools, tweezers and tongs to take out the seeds. We counted them too and realised our pumpkin contained more than 20 seeds.
Tomorrow we will put the seeds in the water tray, I wonder if they will float or sink.
What do you think?

Fun in our final week of term
Where have the weeks gone? I really can't believe only 8 weeks ago we had new children starting FS2 class. Look at them now!! We have independent, sensible and hard working children accessing the areas of the classrooms.
Here is the final slide show of this half term. Look out for pumpkins, dragons, colour mixing and worms.

FS2 listened to the story called The Colours of Us. If you'd like to hear it again, there's a video below.
We noticed that everyone in class had a different skin tone, just like in the story.

Looking after our teeth!
In FS2 this week we have been thinking about looking after our teeth.
We discussed how to look after our teeth. All the children said they need to brush their teeth on a morning and at night before bed. They could all explain which foods are bad for our teeth and which foods are healthier for us.
We do know a lot about looking after our teeth but some of us have not been to visit a dentist before. We then talked about what it is like at the dentist, what will happen when you go there and why it is important to visit the dentist every 6 months.
To help us with this we watched a film about going to the dentist and read a story about Kipper visiting the dentist.
We have a slideshow of some photos.

Marshall consistently demonstrates an excellent attitude to learning. He is making many new friends and enjoying spending time with them in the indoor and outdoor classroom. A fabulous start to a new school!
Abigail is always busy learning in our classroom. She can often be found in the model making area creating interesting and exciting sculptures.
Well done to the both of you.
