Our weeks are going really fast, it will not be long before you all move up to Year 1. There are some lovely photos in the slide show this week, look out for the floor surfer, play dough people, bubble fun and our version of Temple Run.

Blowing bubbles

Today we made our own bubble mixture using 3 simple ingredients.
Water
Washing up liquid
Glycerine

Tallulah found that if she caught a bubble on her wand and gently blew it, she was able to make it even bigger.

Here is a collage to help you make bubble mixture at home.

Karate

This week we had a very exciting lesson instead of our usual PE lesson.
Mr Kendrick came to give us a karate lesson.
We learnt lots of karate moves and played some fun games while we were exercising.

Have a look at the slideshow of photographs to see our karate moves.

Can you remember what Mr Kendrick told us about using our karate moves by ourselves?

If you would like to join Karate lessons after school on Tuesdays your grown-up needs to fill in the letter sent home on Tuesday and send it into school.

Big Talk

Here is the illustration for this week. I have chosen another Vincent Noot piece of art. This one is an extra busy picture.
Your challenge is to think of a super sentence to go with it.

I will put 5 cubes in our tub for every sentence in the comment box.

Golden Children

Congratulations to Afraz and Sam

Afraz is such a determined member of the class. He has recently been enjoying drawing pictures and writing about Ultimate Spiderman. We are all so proud of you, well done.

Sam - last week in FS2 we were learning about the words full, empty and half full. Sam independently made 3 signs to label the boxes he was using. I was so pleased with the way Sam extended his leaning.

Big Talk

This week we will use another image from the illustrator Vincent Noot.

What is happening?
Can you find the boy with the horn?
What else can you see?

Vincent has very kindly given answers to some questions about his new book.

What inspired you as an illustrator?
As a child, I was much intrigued by search books. I spent hours looking for the right characters and objects on every page. But I discovered there weren’t that many different ones out there. Over the years, I developed a unique cartoon style that I was able to use for several companies and assignments. Together with my ideas and the concept of a search book, my wife (then girlfriend) and I came up with a search book and a fun family as the main characters.
What is “Find the Cutes - Playtime” all about?
Children are creative. They have a huge imagination. In society today, despite all the technology and opportunities, the greatest happiness is often found in the home. Children give families that extra enthusiastic energy. “Find the Cutes - Playtime” is based on that concept. It sparks the imagination, stimulates dialogue without words, educates, entertains, and inspires.
When will it be available?
The book is completed, so we now have a kickstarter campaign from March 1st until March 31st. This is the link: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/92560380/find-the-cutes-playtime?ref=discovery.
You can sponsor/back our project in those 30 days and get discounts that way. We are getting the website www.findthecutes.com ready for ordering, so we are in the process of getting the book printed and attaching a payment system to the website. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions at findthecutes@gmail.com or personally to my account at vincentnoot@gmail.com.

I look forward to asking Vincent more questions, but for now have a close look at the picture and see what you can find.

Throwing and Catching

This term in PE we are using small equipment such as beanbags and balls.

Today in PE we were practising our throwing and catching skills throwing beanbags into a target and throwing and catching them with a partner.

After PE some children chose to continue this work, with friends,in our outdoor classroom. It started off as 2 children working with an adult throwing and catching the beanbags but then lots of children came to join in the activity. We then decided to work in pairs using the beanbags. We have really improved our throwing and catching skills throughout the day!

We now know to throw the beanbag well we need to look where our partner's hands are, as we throw. When we are catching we need to keep our eyes on the beanbag and get our hands ready to catch.

World Book Day

Today we celebrated World Book day in FS2. Your costumes were amazing, I really enjoyed seeing you all as characters from nursery rhymes or traditional stories. We even had some characters from nursery rhymes I hadn't heard since I was a little girl. Thank you to the grown ups for all their hard work.

The teachers in class had a bakery theme. We wore aprons like the baker in "Pat a cake" but we didn't bake a cake, instead we made bread and butter.

I was glad to have some extra helpers in class to shake the cream. It wasn't long before the cream turned into butter and we could use it to spread on the bread.

Tell me what you thought of the bread and butter, was it tasty?

Well done Ellie and Alfie

Ellie is such a kind and considerate member of the class. She always looks after her friends and cheers them up when they are sad.

Alfie always makes the most of his time at school. He enjoys pretending to be different characters in the outside classroom and making music with the instruments.

Shrove Tuesday!

Yesterday was Shrove Tuesday and we celebrated it in FS2.

We learnt why we celebrate Shrove Tuesday. We also learnt about Lent. We found out that Jesus went into the desert and didn't eat or drink while he was there. People now often give up something they like during Lent to remember what Jesus did, giving up food and water.

Can you remember what celebration comes after Lent?

We went on to taste different toppings on pancakes and we made a pictogram that showed our favourite.

Can you write back and tell us about the pancakes you had at home last night.

Our first week back at school

Thank you FS2 for a fabulous week. I am really proud of everyone's hard work in the areas of our classroom. We've enjoyed reading Elmer and using the story for our writing in literacy time and for counting and pattern making in maths time.

Here is the slideshow. Look out for a giant Elmer on the shed, ballet classes, ice investigation and a rolling game using the guttering and balls.

A baby in a cot and blue stairs by Olivia S-S
Have a look at Olivia's wonderful painting she made at the "colour mixing" table.
This is what she told me about it;
"This is a baby in the cot in the bedroom, he's wearing spotty bottoms. The mummy is coming up the stairs but you can't see her. There are snowflakes falling down outside"

Can you write back and tell me what you've enjoyed this week?
